Centering Prayer @ St. Stephen
The prayer is done at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newport.
"Prayer is not a request for God's favors...Genuine prayer is based on recognizing the Origin of all that exists, and opening ourselves to it." ~ Rev. Cynthia Bourgeault
Centering Prayer is a contemporary form of Christian meditation which has its roots in ancient Christian Contemplative traditions. It is a silent prayer time when we come together with open minds and hearts, setting aside for a while our thoughts, words, and feelings, so that we might be present to God.
For many, it is a peaceful moment of respite from the busyness and concerns of the day; for some it becomes a daily practice that brings increased peace confidence, and sense of stability amid the noise and chaos at large in our world.
We meet Wednesdays at 2:00pm at St Stephen, to sit for twenty minutes in silence. All are welcome, and brief instruction is offered for those unfamiliar with the practice.
