Centro de Ayuda

Located at St. Stephen Episcopal Church

Centro de Ayuda, Inc. is constituted as a not-for-profit educational organization, whose primary purpose is to serve as a center for cultural awareness and exchange. Multicultural referral for emergencies, education, daily living and community interaction are the services offered as well as providing medical and legal interpreting services, and other forms of community interpreting. Assistance is also given in helping people with filling out job applications, rental agreements, and other legal forms.

Centro de Ayuda was founded in May 17, 1993 by members of St. Stephen Episcopal Church with a grant from The Episcopal Church. Centro de Ayuda was formed to help the Hispanic community in Lincoln County. Since then it has remained bound to St. Stephen's not only because of its location (the office is in the basement of the church), but because throughout its history beloved members of St. Stephen's have served on its board of directors. Centro de Ayuda is regarded by the congregation of St. Stephen's as part of its ministry.

Each Christmas, in cooperation with Centro de Ayuda and the Unitarians, St. Stephen hosts a Christmas party for the neediest members of the Latino community. In addition to celebrating with cake, ice cream, and traditional villancicos (Christmas carols), we give presents to the children and gift certificates for food to each family.
