COHO
At St. Luke by the Sea Episcopal Church
Community Outings Healthy Options (COHO) is a grassroots group that works to help fight stigma associated with mental illness. COHO provides a monthly outing that is open to everyone. These outings help persons with disabilities to find friendships and explore social and recreational activities available locally, provide a framework to allow the participants to engage with others in the community and to provide venues for interactions with people outside of the healthcare system.
COHO is a totally volunteer organization and uses donations to provide lunch and costs associated with the outings.
COHO fills a gap in the socialization opportunities for individuals suffering from mental health issues and increases their supports. St. Luke has been active in assisting COHO since its inception. The first COHO activity was a Christmas Party, and St. Luke bakers made cookies while other parishioners made Christmas cards for the participants.
This year, St. Luke provided funds through a grant to COHO to assist with the cost of an outing.
